Tropical Beach handmade Batik sarong. The background colour is a deep moron with a dark purple batik design. the hand painted flowers are pink, purple and orange and green leaves.
In order to get a multi-coloured end result, the fabric will go through a series of dye baths, with wax drawing or stamping done in between the different colour baths.
Batik fabricators need to plan out the colours they're using and begin with the lightest colour first. Each colour is preserved from the next dye bath by drawing melted, liquid wax on the parts of the fabric that are to remain the current colour.
The cooled wax seals the wax-covered parts of the cotton, preventing those areas from absorbing dye. The cotton will absorb the dye in the areas that are not covered by wax.
After the dying, the wax will be melted off the fabric.
